Thrown and turned bowl with a ring of clay thrown onto the bottom to create pedestal, hand cut into geometric
shapes, the spiral additions are hand cut and applied in the leather hard stage. The inside decoration is a
Clarice Cliff inspiration, the outside has celestial bodies. The pedestal itself reminds me of the plinths
elephants stand on in the circus.
I began making highly decorated bowls and vases and wanted to add more dimension to them with elements coming
off the surface (spirals, leaf shapes, wings, etc.) Also the idea of something holding up and presenting the
bowl appealed to me so I began with the idea of women holding up the central nude. This has evolved into other
elements holding up pieces; i.e. elaborate banisters, circus type plinths, etc.
